Fat Dragon Bar-B-Q closing

Less than a year after opening, Fat Dragon Bar-B-Q (566 Powell Street) will close after December 22. The Downtown Eastside restaurant just steps from Oppenheimer Park is owned by Robert Belcham and Tom Doughty, who also own Italian restaurants Campagnolo and Campagnolo Roma, and previously owned Kitsilano’s Refuel, which was replaced this year by Fable restaurant.

Fat Dragon was known for Southern barbecue with an Asian twist. Malaysian-style chicken wings, smoked pig’s snout fried rice, Szechuan peppercorn-cured pork belly, and slow-smoked beef bao buns were just a few of the popular menu items created by chef de cuisine Adam Johnson and executive chef Ted Anderson. The restaurant was also known for its craft cocktail program designed by barman Matt Martin.
