Students heading to Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus this fall will have access to several new food options. Street Eat Thursday will feature a different Vancouver food cart parked in the courtyard between Saywell Hall and the Academic Quadrangle on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We wanted to bring up some of Vancouver’s best street carts and offer that to the students this semester,” Kelly Dooley, manager of student experience at SFU, told the Georgia Straight in a phone interview Wednesday (August 29). “From my understanding, we’re the first university to have a consistent program like this.”

The first Street Eat Thursday will take place on September 6 and feature popular Japanese-infused hot-dog vendor Japadog. Other confirmed food trucks include Roaming Dragon, which serves Pan-Asian-inspired street food, and DougieDog, creator of all-natural gourmet hot-dogs.

“We got feedback from students that they wanted to have more variety and more options, so we thought this would be a great option for them to have,” Dooley said. “By offering them something fun, something creative, we’re creating a buzz on campus.”

In addition to hosting Street Eat Thursday, SFU will be the first Canadian university to offer students a dining hall open 24-7.
