As brick-and-mortar record stores become a thing of the past, musicians are finding new ways to release their work—experimental, improvisational musicians included.

Vancouver New Music presents Unofficial Channels, a special, two-day event filled with performances, a panel discussion, and an interactive computer installation that explores alternative forms of music distribution. Unofficial Channels happens on Friday and Saturday (November 25 to 26) at VIVO (1965 Main Street), and features Spanish musician Mattin, with guests Masa Anzai & Anju Singh, EDR, Hitori Tori, and Holzkopf on the first night (8 p.m.).

A panel discussion on alternative distribution and authorship with Jim Carrico, Mattin, Gabriel Mindel, and Anju Singh takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The discussion will be moderated by Jacob Hardy, feature a special pre- and post-performance by Aja Rose Bond, and be followed by more music from Mattin and the Vancouver Electronic Ensemble afterwards.

Tickets will be sold at the event venue, and are $15 for Friday only, $10 for Saturday only, and $20 for both nights.
