Teatr Popularny Canadian-Polish Society PRO ARTE presents a staging of beloved children’s tale King Matt the First. The event, which includes family activities, music, crafts, and refreshments, will run on Sunday (June 17) from noon to 5 p.m. at B.C. Children’s Hospital’s Shaughnessy Building Auditorium (4480 Oak Street), and the play will be performed at 2:30 p.m. All ticket revenue raised from this event will be donated to the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation.

King Matt the First was written by Polish-Jewish writer and educator Janusz Korczak, who was a promoter of children’s rights and a director of an orphanage in Nazi-occupied Poland. The story was adapted for the stage by Polish director Julia Wernio and translated into English by Vancouver actor-director Marek Czuma. King Matt the First features a cast almost entirely made up of children, and was first produced at Vancouver’s Chutzpah! Festival in February 2012.

Tickets are by donation at the door or by calling 604-897-1899.
