Vancouver's Glowbal Group of restaurants, which includes Glowbal Grill & Satay Bar, Coast, Sanafir, Italian Kitchen, Trattoria Italian Kitchen, and Society, opened their seventh restaurant, Black + Blue (1032 Alberni Street), over the weekend with an opening party on Friday (October 28).

The three-storey restaurant is a classic steakhouse, specializing in a large selection of prime-cut steaks, including Wagyu, U.S., and Canadian prime. All beef is kept in a large glass cooler at the centre of the restaurant, and aged for 28 to 48 days. The dinner menu features classic steakhouse items, including oysters Rockefeller ($14), prawn cocktail ($15), and pan-seared foie gras ($19) to start; Caesar salad ($11) prepared tableside; and non-beef entrees, such as coq au vin ($24), Berkshire pork chop ($31), and lobster thermidor (market price). Steaks at dinnertime start at $29 for an 8-ounce Angus beef tenderloin. Prime rib, which comes with Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, and vegetables, starts at $27 for 10 ounces.

The lunch menu is similar, but with lower pricing. The Caesar salad will only run you $8, steaks start at $21 (although they're slightly smaller cuts), and that same 10-ounce prime rib entrée is $19. Also on the restaurant's lunch menu are four sandwiches, including beef dip ($12) and lobster roll ($15), as well as four burgers ($14 to $16). Black + Blue has an extensive cocktail list, which includes classic and new signature drinks, as well as a six-item dessert menu.

Opened by Glowbal owners Emad Yacoub and Shannon Bosa Yacoub, Black + Blue's kitchen is run by executive chef Dennis Peckham and chef de cuisine Jason Labahn.

The interiors of the restaurant were designed by Box Interior Design, and include a towering bag at the centre of the restaurant, a glass-walled elevator, golden orb lights, and dark wood fixtures. Black + Blue has 240 seats at tables ranging from cozy booths to long dining tables.

I'm glad to see I overshot the mark with my pricing guesses, Ms. da Silva. Or did I? Are there really no entrees listed on the menu at $50?

And it's gratifying to see I could cause you to rewrite a whole article with a single comment (and lose said comment in the process). Wow, the power I must have.

But enquiring minds really want to know about that glass elevator. Do tell.

Or will you just nuke my comment again?

Don't feel too "gratified": you did not cause Michelle to "rewrite a whole article".
And she did not "nuke" your comment. The Georgia Straight does not censor comments unless they contravene the guidelines set out in our disclaimer, in which case they aren't published in the first place.
No, you were commenting on a preview article published last summer.
Search it. The article is still there; so is your comment.
The article above is a review of the opening-night festivities that took place four nights ago.

      Have a nice day.

Thanks for that, Martin. Can I downsize my order of stupid from extra large to super small?
