There’s a new dining option in that hard-to-define area of downtown between the West End and Yaletown. IK2Go opened in late August at 1328 Hornby Street, along the Hornby Street bike route. An offshoot of the Glowbal Collection's Italian Kitchen, it has a similar menu to IK2Go on Alberni street. However, while the Alberni deli offers take-out only, the Hornby location has seating for 40 people.

At a media launch this morning (September 25), I checked out the café. It’s a bright, airy place with plenty of light from its high ceilings, skylights, and front windows. A stylish communal table runs down the centre of the room, and wine bottles decorate one wall. (The café is licensed.)

Both vegetarian and meat-based paninis are on offer at IK2Go.

The counter-service menu centres on sandwiches and paninis ($5.95 to $6.95) as well as antipasto and salads ($3.95 or $5.95) based on everything from quinoa to faro to couscous to lentils. Pastas ($6.95 to $8.95) such as lasagna are also featured, as well as meat dishes like veal Milanese. Family-sized portions are available to go.

      It’s open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
