Get ready to hear a lot more about Ricky Gervais over the next month. That's because he'll be back on January 15 for the third consecutive year as host of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Golden Globe Awards.

Today in the middle of various Gervais tweets about his love for animals, the British comic resent a link to an essay he wrote shortly before Christmas last year denying the existence of God. It appeared in the Wall Street Journal.

Naturally, that prompted a heavy reaction from readers in the religion-obsessed United States of America.

At last year's Golden Globes, Gervais poked fun at various celebrities in the room. And in a recent videotaped interview on YouTube, he left the impression that we can expect more of the same this time around when he returns to the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

"I’m not beholden to those people in the room so I can say exactly what I want," he said. "I made a decision last year that I shouldn’t be doing it for the 20 egos in the room, I should be doing it for the 200 million people watching at home and I’m going to do that this year. So I'd say to the people in the room, be afraid."

Ricky Gervais says Johnny Depp, Will Smith, and Robert De Niro weren't offended by what he said at last year's Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills.
