The Toronto Argonauts are the 2012 Canadian Football League champions.

In front of a sold-out crowd of 53,000 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, the Argos beat the Calgary Stampeders at their own game. Toronto held the CFL’s leading rusher Jon Cornish to 57 yards while Argos running back Chad Kackert racked up 133 yards on the ground and added another 62 through the air.

Ricky Ray, in his first year as Argos quarterback, was solid, completing 18 of 30 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns. This included the first score of the game to the league’s Most Outstanding Player, Chad Owens.

The Stampeders, whose offence was so impressive last week in a 34-29 win over the B.C. Lions, seemed to be stuck in neutral all night. Quarterback Kevin Glenn was 14 of 27 for 221 yards and no touchdowns.

The Argos' defence also scored a touchdown on a second-quarter interception return.

The win is the Argos first Grey Cup championship since 2004. Kackert was named game MVP while Ricky Foley—a former B.C. Lion—was named top Canadian.
