It’s been nearly a year since Vancouver chef Dale MacKay was named winner of Top Chef Canada’s debut season, and as the series approaches the end of its second season, another local chef is in the running for the top prize.

Trevor Bird, who recently opened his first restaurant Fable (1944 West 4th Avenue), is among the top-three contestants entering the final episode, which airs Monday (June 4) on Food Network Canada. The 28-year-old chef, who worked as a chef de partie at Vancouver’s Shangri-La Hotel before competing on Top Chef, will face-off against 27-year-old Jonathan Korecki, who is a chef in Ottawa, and 26-year-old Carl Heinrich, who was born in Sooke but now lives in Toronto.

The three chefs will not only be competing for the title of “Top Chef”, but also for a $100,000 cash prize and a GE Monogram kitchen. During the last episode, Bird, Korecki, and Heinrich will cook one final meal for resident judges chef Mark McEwen, restaurateur Shereen Arazm, and host Lisa Ray. In addition, two more B.C. chefs—Vancouver’s Vikram Vij, who will appear as guest judge, and Whistler’s Jimmy Stewart, who was eliminated from the competition earlier in the season—will appear in the final episode.
