Vancouver Comicon highlights alternative art and culture at Comix & Stories

A special edition of the Vancouver Comicon takes place this Sunday (August 23) at Heritage Hall (3102 Main Street). Comix & Stories: A Day of Alternative & Small Press Comics, Zines, Artwork, and Culture features a wide range of artists and their wares, special guest Kate Beaton (Hark! A Vagrant), and Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art Class, which allows you to “sketch beautiful burlesque art models all day long”.

Beaton, who hails from Nova Scotia, is making a name for herself doing unique and humorous comics that take aim at prime ministers and the Bronte sisters, among other subjects.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; admission is $4.
