Video: Vancouver protest targets G8 and G20 summits in Ontario

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Today (June 26), about 100 protesters marched in East Vancouver to show their opposition to the G8 and G20 summits in Ontario.

Protesters heard from several speakers along the way, and got into a few minor confrontations with police.

Protesters chant before hearing Salvadoran activist and SFU student Ana Linares speak about the impact of Canadian mining companies on people in Latin America.

A confrontation between protesters and police leads to shoving and name-calling.

Marla Renn of the Vancouver Community Mobilization Network explains why the march targeted Vancouver's port.

100 people - wow! Another "massive" protest against the man. What a waste of time and resources.

Its a waste resources to send 2 helicopters, about 50 cops, "pigs on horses" atleast 4 vans full of pigs to patroll our "dangerous" activity, for sure.
Its incredibly important that no matter how big our small, we show the people in Toronto and the world that we are in solidarity with their current struggles, that we are with them in spirit even if we can't be in Toronto with them right now.

People who cover their faces in public are not legitimate protestors; they are showing "solidarity" with criminal nihilists. The Toronto police are showing a serious lack of discipline and even some criminality of their own, perhaps, but that's no excuse.

The real waste of time and resources were the 5 dozen or so cops, the horse cops, the bicycle cops, the copper chopper, the videographer cops, the undercover cops, the cop vans, etc. that where there to harrass a group of people who just want a more dignified and just world to live in.

Decent story Stephen and love the video & camera shots.

Was really an awesome moment to connect with you covering this VERY important show of community solidarity on Coast Salish Territory.

I am with the Vancouver Media Coop.
Also working with the Downtown Eastside Neighborhood Council.

I am witnessing so much corruption it is gross.
Police brutality and criminalization of the poor.
So much injustice needs to be addressed.

Unfortunately our societal system is sooo damn rigged to create so much dysfunction and greedy little capitalists.
Fighting and oppressing each other is THE PLAN. (of those who created this f*cked societal system)

Looking forward to seeing more important unbiased and truth telling social justice minded news from you and others at "The straight". (as much as I dislike the term "straight" haha)

      Namaste
