Why the NYPD is beating up girls

    1 of 1 2 of 1

There was a nice bit on The Colbert Report last week in which Stephen Colbert became increasingly dismayed as he searched for a clip that didn’t feature a thoughtful and articulate protestor from the Occupy Wall Street action taking place in New York.

The video below, uploaded to YouTube on Friday, is similarly impressive, with a spectrum of protestors offering their take on the growing event. Although “protestors” might be the wrong word, if we consider the perspective of the young woman who says they’re looking for “a model for a new society.”

"It’s not a protest in the sense of being against something,” she says. “It’s a way to formulate something new.”

One of the little noticed but important images from the tuition fee demonstrations that took place in London last December showed a group of schoolgirls, in uniform, joining hands to surround and protect an abandoned police van. This small but savvy act prevented the media from getting its much coveted front page image of London in flames. As those teenage girls well knew, that van was put there as bait.

There’s not much the authorities fear more than peaceful protest. It leaves police with little choice other than to just start in with the skull bashing anyway, and then we get dispatches like this one below showing the NYPD penning and macing women for the vile crime of being a threat to absolutely no one. Yesterday, roughly 80 arrests were made as police in New York began the inevitable crackdown.

Which really raises the question: why have we never seen the cops violently taking down a Tea Party rally? By their fruits shall you know them. The State demonstrably has nothing to fear from chromosome-damaged white people with guns calling for an end to healthcare or even the violent overthrow of the government. But an educated middle class awakening to “corporatism, fascism, crony-capitalism… a police state, an American empire, 700 military bases in 135 foreign countries, a welfare-warfare state that gives out billions of dollars in aid to foreign dictators…?" That’s when you need to start beating up girls.

re: "why have we never seen the cops violently taking down a Tea Party rally?" Because either you're not skilled at using google or you're only looking for the news you want to see instead of searching for the truth?

Here's a video of "tea party"/libertarian folks getting slammed and beat for the crime of public dancing.

re: "...chromosome-damaged white people with guns calling for an end to healthcare or even the violent overthrow of the government." I guess the racist ad hominems are there to fill the holes in your 100% emotional and 0% logical argument?

Since you've already brought up "chromosome-damaged white people", I must say; the only one I've heard calling for a violent overthrow of the government is Michael Moore: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/09/22/michael_moore_threaten...

Birdy, you linked to a video showing anti-war Iraq veteran Adam Kokesh and Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin being arrested for dancing at the Jefferson Memorial. This is not a Tea Party rally by even the most liberal stretch of the imagination. Pun intended.

My Google, meanwhile, finds Michelle Malkin describing Kokesh as "an anti-war smear merchant in 'Republican' clothing."

And this is from the Moore clip: "...people when they've had enough aren’t going to take it anymore. And much better to deal with it NONVIOLENTLY now, through the political system, than what could possibly happen in the future..." How on earth is this calling for "violent overthrow"?

The sound of those women yelling is enough to take some kind of action, it's enough to make one's ear bleed.

      @Birdy

Why do you feel the need to effectively make things up? Are you doing this intentionally or are you just an idiot? Those are the only two options, sir. You see, you are either aware of what you are doing or you are not. The former would paint you as a lying asshole and the latter as a fool. So, I have to ask; which is it?

I don't want to undermine the fact that corporate greed is one of the biggest problems the world faces today, or the importance of becoming aware of this, or the fact that we need to collectively work towards finding ways to overcome this oppression ...but, I do have a problem with your statement:

..."That’s when you need to start beating up girls."

I didn't see anyone beating up girls Adrian. I saw a 40 second clip of about 4-5 women reacting to pepper-spray. I think this is an important distinction because emotionally provocative reporting has the potential to breed hostility, hate and conflict as you should know http://www.straight.com/article-399635/vancouver/vancouver-hockey-riot-s...

@Anti-hysteria: Having been lucky enough in my life to experience both, I'd much rather be punched in the face than be pepper sprayed in the face.

It's just the preferable option for these cops because it doesn't leave bruises the next day.

unless these protesters block the streets, block entrance to the buildings and effectively shut down wall st with critical mass like the Arab spring nothing is going to change.

of course the moment they do this the cops will bash their skulls in and arrest everybody.

The bulk of protesting students demanding taxpayer handouts for one cause or another grow up and become tax hating breeders. I also appreciate the use of "peaceful protest" as a buzz phrase, one used in reference to every protest from the left no matter what takes place: ripping down fences is "peaceful" but responding to that action is "fascist." The way some people whine abut how oppressed they are and how we are living under a "dictatorship" you would think we live in mid-70's Chile or Argentina. Next time you feel the need to proclaim how nasty life is under Harper seek out a person who has lived under a dictatorship and compare stories. Until we lose all non-government controlled media and protesters start disappearing you are just crying wolf...again.
