Yuji's Japanese Tapas to close on July 9

After eight years of serving the Kitsilano community, Yuji's Japanese Tapas (2059 West 4th Avenue) will be closing its doors after Saturday's (July 9) dinner service.

While a spokesperson for the restaurant could not be reached by phone, Yuji's had this message on its answering machine for customers:

We regret to inform our loyal customers that we have sold our business. Yuji's last day is Saturday, July 9. We would like to thank everyone for their support for the last eight years. Thank you very much.

I'm sad to say that I never actually got a chance to dine at Yuji's, but from what I understand, the small, dinner-only restaurant had quite a devoted following until more fusion-style, izakaya-type restaurants started popping up all over Vancouver.

If you want to get one last taste of the popular sweet potato tempura sticks, or try out one of their original sushi rolls (like the í¼ber-indulgent cream cheese, mango, and prosciutto roll), make sure you stop by Yuji's before Saturday.

The place that preceded it in that location, called Taka I believe, had by far the best vegetarian sushi I've ever had. Often wondered what happened to the chefs.

I am so shocked and sad about this closure. This is my girlfriend & my favourite Japanese restaurant in the city for both cooked food and sushi. I wish them all the best in the future. I wish I had more time before the closure, not sure I'll be able to make it for one last visit.

Yugi and his staff were the best, and it had the best Japanese food I have ever eaten. I am sad that it is closing. Joanne and I had some terrific meals there together and with our friends.

This was the sushi jem of the city. Sad to hear it's closing down. I only wish I could go once more.

One of the very best Japanese restaurants in a city filled with great Japanese restaurants. It'll be missed.

You can get that mango/creamcheese/prosciutto roll at Sakana in Yaletown, too.

With our busy schedules....It was always a pleasure to eat at yugi's. We were shocked when we called to make reservations....it was closed. We will miss Yuji...George and the rest of the very pleasant staff. They treated us like family. Mara and George
