How can weed be used to cook food?
Infused edibles and beverages are a smoke-free alternative to consuming pot. I find the effects are stronger and last longer than smoking cannabis, so it’s win-win situation!
Weed butter and weed-alcohol tinctures can be made using an infusion machine, like The Magical Butter. Just put your ingredients inside The Magical Butter, choose the setting, and let it do the work. It's really the easiest way to infuse. Within 120 minutes you’ll end up with cannabis butter or a tincture. You can also use a more conventional method using decarboxylated weed buds (laying ground cannabis on a tray and putting it in the oven at 400 degree F/200 degrees C for 10-15 minutes; this will activate the THC inside the plant matter), and set aside weed stems to make tea.
Let's set the scene: Imagine it’s cold outside and you just got home on a Friday night. You have the next day off, so you’re now just chilling on your couch beside the fireplace. It's winter time, you have your favorite Simpson socks on, and now you just want to relax.
The only thing to make this perfect moment even better is a hot cup of weed tea and cannabread scones just to take the edge off. It’s not too much work if you have made the arrangement ahead of time—you know this exact moment is going to present itself on a Friday night. You don’t plan on going into the bed early, you’d rather binge Netflix shows and sink into the couch.
Now, the scene is set. Let's get into how to make these cozy night treats.
Ginger weed tea
- Weed stems
- Cannabis butter
- Tea (of your choice)
- 1 tablespoon crushed ginger
- Cloves and cardamom (optional)
- A strainer/cheesecloth
- Lightly crush weed stems with a mortar and pestle
- Put stems and crushed ginger into a cheesecloth
- Boil 2 cups of water
- Reduce water to low heat and place the cheesecloth full of herbs, a few cloves, and some cardamom into the pot. Let it sit for 15 minutes
- Take the cloth out and squeeze out any excess water
- Stir cannabis butter into the tea and mix on medium heat and stir. Use the amount you're comfortable consuming. If in doubt, start with a small amount and wait 45 minutes to an hour to allow the effects to kick in before adding more.
- Add a tea bag and let steep until the infusion cools down
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/4 cup caster sugar
- 1/2 cup of cannabis butter
- 1 1/14 milk
- 1 whole egg
- Mix flower and sugar in a bowl
- Add cannabis butter
- Fold with hands until it turns into a soft bread-crumb-like texture
- Slowly add milk and mix in a circular motion
- After it becomes a cookie-dough-like texture, place dough on a lightly floured cutting board
- Sprinkle some flour on top of the dough, as well
- Knead with hands into a round shape at about 1/2 inch in thickness
- Cut out sections with a small circular cookie cutter and place on a buttered tray
- Beat egg into a dish and add a dash of milk into it, mix well
- Use a brush to glaze the scones lightly with egg and milk mixture
- Place the tray into the oven at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 12 minutes
The weed infused tea and cannabutter scones are now ready to be feasted upon! The warm scones can be buttered separately, and if you want more of a kick you can use a touch of infused butter. You can always tweak the recipe to your personal liking until you achieve the perfect taste.
Now you can stream your favorite Netflix show and crawl back into your couch, slip inside the blanket, and enjoy your tea and cannabread scone next to a warm cozy fireplace. Remember, with edibles, always start with a small dose and allow yourself time to feel the effects. You can always consume more, but consuming too much cannabis can sometime result in an uncomfortable experience.
