Yuppies

Why are there so many yuppies in Vancouver. I hate how people are so stuck up, bitchy and pretentious and act like they have so much money that they need to flaunt it. Real people with money don't show it off, they live in the burbs and you would not tell who they are even if they were standing next to you in a line. YUPOUVER!

90% of the money people have in vancouver is 100% fake. They don't have anymore money the you or I.

It's called the credit generation, living on cards of plastic or in real terms economic slaves and the only way a slave can feel better is to brag over the lessor ones.

The real money that owns this place doesn't live here.

Just morons acting like they're celebrities, designer this, designer that, playing the shallow game of materialism and showing off that they're better than the regular folk. Can't really blame 'successful' people for flaunting it can we?

It just mean us real people have to stick together. The chase for wealth and status bores me to no end. I cannot be bothered to fight for much more than I need, because my extra efforts can be applied to much better things that exist. Friendship, a brisk walk on a sunny winter day and some good conversation are each worth SO much more than the ugly name brands people go insane for.

Designer purse < personality.

I hate that "blame the real money on the foreigners" shit. I don't think that's true. I think there's people in vancouver with money but I don't think healthy, fulfilled, hard-working people with money live a ridiculous lifestyle. I think outrageous people live in lavish.

with the living on credit comments. Also, some people know that when their parents die and leave behind a will that includes a possible $750--$1 million and up house they use that as a security blanket. Trust me, i have some cousins that even in their mid 40s are living a good life thru the bank of mommy and daddy.....one relative asked his father for his inheritance ''early''

Money is the root of all evil.

Actually, Bee it's the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil....or so goes the quote. When I get put-off by all the materialism out there I reread "The Millionaire Next Door" and try to glean some perspective about what money really means to smart people.

Used to be in the car industry.

Nearly every person out there- all smug in their newer BMW/MB,Audi/Ferrari blah blah blah is on a car lease and I got stinking rich due to their desire to "stand out" and be admired.

But they don't really stand out, they're just another idiot stuck in traffic next to another idiot stuck in the same lease.

Showing off is due to the lack of love for oneself. When we try to impress others, whether by looking wealthy, anti-wealthy, hipster, corporate, anti-corporate, skinny, muscle-bound, etc, it's because we don't approve of and love ourselves enough, so we seek approval from the others.

I knew someone who was very proud of being anti-materialistic and of being a "deep" person. He went to the extent of putting "Happy" on the specialized license plate of his old car to prove he was happy without money. It came from an equally insecure and pretentious feeling as one who is proud of his expensive car.

So, it's not so much about yuppies, it's actually about most of us, who try to impress others. Ask yourself how you try to impress others...Your education....# of FB friends....Your body....Your talents...Your partner or friends...How unmaterialistic you are...

Most of us do it, not just yuppies. It can be discouraging. Just gotta work on accepting ourselves and others, and the world would be a different place...

I'm curious...if you knew $1M was coming your way some time in the future...Would it not give you a more secure feeling, and would you not relax to some degree? :)
