Taking things for granted

I confess that I have been ungrateful for my parents' emotional and financial support. In the past they have been very severe to me because of their culture and because they didn't know any better. They are different now but I still blame them and convince them my fear of intimacy and extreme judgementalism comes from how they raised me. The truth is that it comes from me victimizing myself. And fear of failure. They have done a decent job with their own lives, families and careers and have always worked hard, set a good example as far as the major things are concerned, and they try to be considerate. They are not the most intelligent or sensitive or artistic people but they pay for my education, music lessons, travels, electronics and even clothes and other frivolities. I have been most ungrateful and I am ashamed of myself. I resolve to change.

Kudos for your self-awareness and compassion for your parents. :) A lot of children grow up feeling dissatisfied with how they are raised. It could be due to differences in culture or simply generational differences with their parents. It's good to remember that most parents do what they believe to be best for their children, although the children might think otherwise. With more life experiences, many of us come to realize this, and learn to appreciate the good things they have done while letting go of the negative.

I just love these kind of posts. Kudos to the OP for reflecting on the good fortune provided by parents and being grateful for all they've done. Being in harmony with and unconditionally loving the two people who gave you life is a beautiful thing.

It's the most spoiled who are the least grateful.
