Am I a dirty girl?

I shower everyday and I wash my hands after using the washroom or blowing my nose. But sometimes I feel like I'm less concerned about cleanliness than other people. I hate dusting, so I don't dust my house unless people come over (which isn't often). I vacuum regularly because of my pets but probably wouldn't otherwise. I often will reuse socks that were lying on the floor from when I last took them off (usually to take the dog out for a walk or if I'm going somewhere where I know I won't have to take off my shoes). When I cook for other people, I make sure everything is cleaned and prepared properly but if I cook or bake for myself, butter could fall on the tile (which also isn't cleaned regularly, BTW) and I'd just scrape off the dirt and use it anyway. I've never been pulled aside and been discretely told I need to up my hygiene regimen so I don't think I appear as sloppy as I actually am, but maybe people are just being nice. I don't know. Anyway, that's my confession. I'm a dirty, dirty girl.

Honestly, I think a good portion of "clean" people do the same things you just described. Cleanliness is more of a spectrum than an absolute.

That's pretty dirty. The thing is, that kind of sloppiness shows through unless you are very conscious about it at the time ( like when you are cooking for somebody else) because it means you don't really understand the importance of cleanness or what it means.

I swear to god, so many people who claims to be clean (nobody claims they are dirty, so I command you on your honesty). Being messy is different than clean. But they would drink out of the Tumblr that has her lipstick on from the day before. Or this girl says she'said germaphobe but the inside of her shoes are fucking disgusting.

You sound

Just means you're not uptight. Good for you.

Not terribly fussy myself, and I look for that in others. The obsession with keeping everything tidy can get in the way of...well, everything else, but specifically, it's usually a pervasive killjoy.

Give me laid-back company with a bit of perspective over a neat freak any day.

You sound like you are refreshingly normal. Don't worry, and don't change your ways.

so you're a girl in Vancouver, who occasionally hoovers, but your floor isn't clean, well do you know what that means? You need a new vacuum, and one meant for tile floors, you can find it online or in specialty stores, and for mess-making dogs are the worst, if you want to be clean get rid of the slobber machine first.

If that makes you dirty...

what does it make me? I'm worse than you, and always thought I was pretty average in terms of cleanliness. Certainly not filthy dirty or gross or whatever. Imagine how people live in third world countries.

Our attitudes towards...

...cleanliness are not so much the issue: the OP's feelings of guilt and shame for not meeting some imaginary housekeeping standard are. Men and women labour under very different societal expectations around housework, and unfortunately women can be very judgmental, when it comes to other women's housekeeping. (plus a lot of other stuff)
