Classic DT

I Really miss the old downtown, back when Seymour Street had record row incl A&B, Sam & Odessey as well as Charlies on Granville, Yaletown was abandoned & Gastown was Skid Row. LuvAffair was the coolest club(still would blow any club on Granville now) up on Seymour/Drake - Dt was actually a cool place to hang out in the 80s & 90s. Now don't even have a connection with it at all except awesome memories.

Those were The days!

Asise from A&B sound & Sam's cheap bins - the reason I used go to the DTES as a kid(starting at 12 years old in the late 80s) was go shop for used music tapes(cassettes) at the pawn shops there cause I couldn't afford to pay $10-15(astronomical prices in the 80s) for em, so I discovered can buy em used for cheaper less than 5. But record row was fun to hang out just to browse.

Biggest thing I miss is the somewhat "grungy" bars such as Luv Affair. What a place it was with few pretensions, relatively cheap drinks and played good music. Obviously I'm older now to regularly hit clubs, but the odd time I have the people think they should dress as minimal as possible, drinks cost way too much and the music is trash. That's a general statement om popular music now I guess too..

It's heartbreaking when I think about those days. Best time of my life, especially luv a fair and record row. Off for a cry now.

I used to love wandering around Charlie's. I also miss capital 6 and the time when people around you felt like that were from our city.

I miss Charlie's man. That was a great place to find used CD's and DVDs for half the price. I got a lot of good music and DVDs there. Those were the days indeed. Thanks for the memories. Also to add remember the movie theaters? There was at least 3 on Granville when I moved here in 2001. Now they are all night clubs. Sucks.

Missing those days

Record row was always the first stop when going downtown: A&A, A&B, Sam's & Odyssey for imports. Also liked going to Discus in the mall because one of the Skinny Puppy guys worked there. And then before all the condos, going back and forth between Luvafair and Graceland - best music. Only good place on Granville is the Commodore...though I miss that narrow red carpeted stairway.

It happens everywhere

Ah yes, the 90s. Those were the good old days back when Surrey was the sticks. Lots of forests, farmland and cute little ranchers before the condos, townhouses, megahomes and rec centres.

Yes, DT was awesome then. The 70's-80's were especially great. So much character.

Now the place is full of assholes and doochebags with immensely shallow women hanging off their Ferraris

Thumbs Downers

The dislikers are the current goers & residents who don't share or know this history. Their connection to the present dt is walking their ankle biters in parking lots outside their insanely priced rents LOL!
