White supremacist groups

are hate groups. They hold rallies in order to draw out protesters, get news coverage and spread hate. Don't take the bait, there's far more rational individuals than there greatly outnumbering these idiots.

I'm thinking along the same lines. Our collective outrage over Trump's incendiary campaign certainly didn't do much good. It only riled his base. So laugh at these idiots and let them flail away on the street like the useless scum they are.

White supremacist groups are super rare in reality. I don't think that is the Trump voter base.

I don't know why everyone on the far left assumes so... Kind of extreme.

Agreed

I was thinking the exact same thing. Don't take the bait. Its exactly what these fascists want. They have this wet dream about a "race war" that they have talked about for years. They've just been waiting for the right moment to strike, and they think Trump's election has signaled that this is their moment. They want to create a spark through violent clashes with counter-protestors that will spread, or so they believe. If you want to fight these people, do it at the ballot box. Do it through policies and laws that are the antithesis of what these people want. You aren't being a hero if you get into a fistfight with these people in the streets. You're not stopping a lynching, you're just indulging a bunch of trust-funders who are angry because they can't get a date.

@Missing the big picture
Donald Trump began his political career by championing a racist conspiracy theory about the first black president. Polls among Republican voters put him in the lead as their preferred candidate for president as soon as he became a "birther." That lead continued all the way to the nomination and the election. Multiple studies have shown that voters who experienced fear/anxiety about "demographic changes" in America were among Trump's most ardent supporters.
In other words, racists are a big part of Trump's base. Acknowledging that doesn't make someone "Far left." It just means that you're not blind to reality and evidence.

The whole thing has become too extreme on both sides...in Canada if you say "I didn't steal the Natives land"...someone will call you a racist! All debate has been silenced.

They hold rallies as a form of terrorism, to show vulnerable folks where they can operate and "authorities" and community will be complicit. There rallies do not generate new supporters for them, nor does media attention. Their networks are in place, and any who find and join groups because of media coverage would have found and joined those groups anyways. Nazis find their own.

Because Nazi rallies are terrorism directed at people of colour, it is absolutely vital that they be counter protested, so that the intended terrorizing effect does not occur, as people do not perceive the hate group as being allowed to operate in their community. Counter protesting in these cases is counter terrorism.
