Why?

My partner's parent has been single for many years. They have now become attached to another and it's great for everybody. But, they have this horrible horrible habit of expressing how people from their past "were so good looking". It's not an important footnote to say that you met this person or used to hang out with that person and they were attractive. If they are trying to make the new significant other jealous or insecure- please consider how it would make you feel if the role was reversed. Plus, you're 75 years old.

I think that type of comment is often present with people who suffer from low self esteem, or, conversely, wit narcissistic people. Either of those types are eager to make sure that everyone knows that they can (or could) attract good looking people. It's especially irritating when they do it in front of the person they are with now. It makes everyone cringe and they are usually entirely oblivious to it.

They're 75 years old and don't have much time left. When you're 75 years old, you too will miss precious beauty and youth.
