The backyard dream

I just googled real estate in other provinces. I could save up money to pay off a house in most other provinces that I could pay off in the next few years. I love the mountains, the ocean, the forest. I love that Vancouver has strong First Nations, support for LGBT communities, arts, and such diversity. But I could sit in a backyard every evening. I could afford to live elsewhere and fly to visit Vancouver for almost the same cost as living here!

Provinces? You can by villa's in other countries for what apartments sell for in Vancouver.

sitting in your back yard much in most of the other provinces. There are a ton of mosquitos and black flies in the warm season. Then the 10 months of cold season - lots of wind and frigid temps.
Been there, done that. I agree that prices are high here and that is probably why.

Well then

Why wouldn't you just live here if it would cost the same as the scheme you're planning?

Agree. I grew up in Edmonton and after 6 pm you couldn't go outside because of all the mosquitos. Regina and Saskatoon have the highest crime rates of the country. Not to mention minus 40 temperatures in the winter. Winnipeg is worse. Always a howling wind with zero visibility.
I would rather live in a studio apartment in this climate than a house there. I got out and will never go back. I suggest you spend a few weeks first in the places you are thinking of moving to, during different seasons of the year.
The only other factor to consider is that sometimes the people there are friendlier. Vancouver doesn't have the soul it used to have.
