Daytime running lights DO NOT replace headlights
posted November 20th, 2017 at 10:33 PM
I really wish people would stop being such idiots and only using their DRLs at night and when it’s raining or snowing.
Your dashboard might be lit, and you think you can see in front of you just fine.
But there’s this nifty invention -that all cars are equipped with - called tail lights, and they DON’T go on unless your headlights do. And nobody behind you can see you.
So stop being so damn self-centred and lazy, and take the two seconds it takes to flick your headlight switch on. Better yet - set it to “Auto” and you’ll never have to worry about being one of those idiots again. Everybody on the road will thank you.

Rented a car sometime back and got a few honks on the 99. Was wondering wtf? So, yeah, I am an idiot and I suppose lucky I did not kill anyone. Thanks for the education.

In case this fact escapes you, allow me to remind you that at this time of year especially, it's frequently dark and rainy for the whole day. Any time of day when conditions warrant it is when turning on your headlights (which activates your taillights too) is not only a good idea, but mandatory legally. Should you be involved in an accident you could face liability if you were not using your lights in bad conditions. Just like driving too fast for the conditions, even if you're going the posted speed limit.

Wilbur, if you had bothered to read the OP’s post, you would know. He/she clearly stated that this was a problem at night and when it’s raining.
