Beyond Rude

I find it incredibly rude when people won’t get off their cell phones long enough to order a coffee, pay for something, etc. What makes you so important that you can’t deal with another person with the courtesy and respect that we all deserve? Unbelievable.

I do that sometimes. Not to be rude. But sometimes I'm extremely busy, and need to get things done as efficiently as possible. That also explains why I don't smile or take the time to say hello to strangers, except on my off days. Sorry...

You've been brainwashed to accept the " bottom line '- it doesn't excuse your lack of manners and rudeness as a human being. Time to rethink your priorities in life.

It drives me crazy! If my phone does ring I will not answer it! If I'm at the checkout I actually enjoy the small talk! I always ask how they are doing and always say thank you, have a good day! These people that do this seem so pretentious!
Wow!

It's not my job as a paying customer to smile at you or make small talk or comply with your standards of courtesy. I don't understand why you are making it all about yourself by taking things so personal. I'm not yelling at you or being aggressive. I'm just trying to do my shopping and answering my phone while running errands in my busy schedule. The last thing I need is passive aggressiveness from a self-important customer service agent. If you can't handle "rude" customers and "expect" courtesy (whatever that means to you), then maybe you shouldn't work in customer service. Unbelievable!
Even worse

When the cashier is the one talking on their phone! I've had experiences when the store clerk completely ignored mo; no hello, zero eye contact, absolutely nothing. The whole time talking on the phone in a personal conversation. To me that is not only extremely rude but totally unacceptable for anyone who's job is to serve the public.

@Wow
You're right, it's not your job, but it is the hallmark of being a decent human being living in a civilized society. Manners maketh man.

The worst is when they do it when you're trying to take their order... It's rude to the person trying to serve them and to all the other customers waiting. Your job as a customer may not be to make small talk or smile, but it definitely is your job to communicate what you want so the employee can complete the transaction.

So someone calls out the rude people who are on their cell phones- and the cell phone user can't comprehend what basic manners are? Only in Vancouver.

You're right. Only in Vancouver. Try to go somewhere in the third world countries, I bet ya they couldn't care less if you're talking on your phone or being "rude." Those people have more important things to worry about like whether they can put food on the table or feed their kids, etc.
