Since we got together our lives have become an utter catastrophe. His family is there so he's going to be with them and take a break. He has started hating Vancouver and it's where I grew up so I need to be with my family. Christmas is coming so it's a good time to be with loved ones. We need a break and some perspective if it's going to work in the future.

without a promise of returning you might consider bearing the pain and letting him leave. Find someone who'd never dream of doing that to you :-)

we rush into relationships too quickly ...before finding out if we're really compatible with someone.
finding that out takes time ...hang out as friends and see how it goes.
Don't jump into a relationship because you're lonely/horny.
Make sure you click on more than just the physical.

Vancouver has a bad habit of making good men leave due to two factors, lack of decent work and very very cold women. That is the opinion on most mens lips not so it's not hate just a fact.

I can't stand the place either so I don't date anymore because it wouldn't be fair to meet a woman then leave a year later.
