Hawaiian Rip Off

Like a virus, the "resort / amenity" fee has spread throughout the hotel world. I think it started in Vegas and now it's at every joint in Hawaii. Where do they get off charging you an extra fee for what should be the bread and butter service of a hotel? The hotel we stayed at in Waikiki held us up for ransom when we checked in , cash up front US$20 per day "amenity fee" .. for what? It was in the small print of course, tucked in behind the marvelous publicity shots . The pool was cold , wifi which was free at the Vancouver airport, is a cash cow here . Congratulations Hawaii you've finally managed to kill the golden goose! Me no go there again.

There are other accommodation options besides hotels.

Seems like they get you at every point they can now. Baggage fees, 9-11 Airport Security Tax!!!, resort fees...our hotel even had the inconvenience of valet only parking. I say inconvenience because I'd like to walk to my own damn car when I please and not feel like I have to tip you every single time I need to park and go out again. It all adds up and can make a holiday so much more pricey.

I confess, I'm a total sucker though. I love Hawaii and am one of the fools that keep those fees going by returning.

It’s a shit show. My advise is to refuse to pay, and ask for a manager. If you make a scene they will let it slide or give you a credit for food. With competition like air bnb I’m shocked they push this. It’s the same in whistler.

Yeah or they "give" you a breakfast voucher but you have to listen to a bunch of crap about activities or time shares....it's all a little seedy and desperate and embarrassing for the underpaid employees.

Spend your $ in BC -- @ least .75 of every $1 you spend in your community stays in the community. If we want to ensure a vibrant well off BC &/or Canada then we can easily do so by spending our leisure dollars here. I have no idea why people would still chose to spend $ in the States. Personally I will not go there while orange cheeto & the KKK are running things but even without that political lens, it's such a waste of hard earned cash.

KKK running things in the US? Do a little research on what Obama/Clinton were up to,such as fomenting wars (Libya,Syria etc) funding ISIS,deporting 23.5 million people,etc etc.
Anyways...stay in Canada? The reason people go to Hawaii,Mexico,Florida etc is because it's NOT cold nor snowing..get it?
