I dispise cops

Especially the Surrey RCMP. Don't even get me started. So sick of how they play 20 questions with you when you call to report a crime. The cops never do anything about junkies, bums, gangs or shootings. They type up your report on their invisible typewriter. And when you choose to defend yourself, you're the criminal.

Why even bother with them, then?

I've had incidents with police where I was helping someone and almost got arrested because I was present. Maybe there's something off kilter about policing where everyone is a suspect. Like when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Sure we need police, but dangit they're far from perfect.

If you are asking them to come and face people who potentially are armed or in a state of mental crisis & risk their own wellbeing (and things can escalate QUICKLY), then the least you can do is answer 20 questions to help them assess the level of public risk and the priority response needed, & the description of the people/behaviours involved. There is a reason for the questions, and I don't know about you, but it's hard to do your job & keep things from escalating, when a nosy public is interfering or yapping behind you and telling you how to do your job. I think people need to see the other side of how things work, because it really will make you more sympathetic & understanding. It's not an easy job to approach each interaction as if you could potentially be killed, and to add to that constant public scrutiny and overwhelming abuse (physical/verbal) being hurled at you, and knowing the public and the media don't have your back, but to still go in & work weekends/holidays & 12hr shifts, has to take it's toll. yes, there's a few bad eggs, but these are human beings who hear/see the worst of the worst. show some compassion.
