Good and bad feminism - a girl's critique

Feminism is good when educated people discuss it because they know how to draw reasonable conclusions. However, uneducated feminists are occasionally wound up and let loose on the world without any idea of reasonable limits to feminism. They hurt feminism in the long run. I know one who acts morally superior. There is a difference between rightfully blaming feminism and an unwillingness to admit your own faults. If I did not live with her, I would keep a mile away from her at all times. She is mean and angry all the time. I just wish that she could get an education and realize that this is not fluff. There are logical underpinnings to feminism.

A movement for liberation should only liberate the educated.

Your roomate sounds like a jerk, any ideology.

At the risk of mansplaining, it seems to me that feminism as an idea always gets mixed up with "the behavior of feminists that I object to."

As a topic, feminism is a logical way to consider humanity and justice, in that we can all relate to having a gender and how it has benefited us or not. The evolution of society seems historically about the trend to liberty from arbitrary constraints, and what better example of liberation than female emancipation? What clearer example of arbitrary constraint than traditional gender roles that often leave women silenced, subjugated, shamed?

But then you see the likes of "Trigglypuf"f on the internet and I just want to bury my face in my hands.

Before anyone says "tone policing!" or "oppressed people have been patient long enough" let me just say that people don't like being told to shut up and that unfairness is no more palatable coming from so-called victims than when it comes from the oppressor.

That just seems to be a matter of tactics, not whether feminism is bad.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights was made in 1948. Whether or not people choose to abide by that act is purely subject to subject.

The horse is long since dead.

Woman make up over 80% of consumers and 90% of all divorces benefit women. You're fine go back to work and enjoy paying those taxes.

Economic Collapse, EMP, Deep Impact, Super Volcano, WWIII, Massive Earthquake, Civil War, and the list goes on and on... but any of these things, and there will be no room for your Neo Feminist, or your Social Justice Weirdo.

And both genders are fully capable of deceit, harming others, extreme self interest and even murder.

What is the opposite of Feminist? Equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome. It's that simple. If you want to label like uneducated v. educated, feminist v. normal human...that is up to you.

I for one cannot see supporting something that favours a given gender. Nothing equal about it.

You're so out of touch with everyday women's experiences. I can't stand anyone who thinks themselves superior to others based on some privilege they have. So, uneducated women don't have anything to contribute to the debate about feminism or women's rights because only educated women in their ivory tower have the correct understanding of feminism? You sound so condescending and delusional about your self-importance. I would have thought that with education comes open-mindedness and self-awareness. You're the proof this isn't necessarily the case.

I’m so amazed that in 2018 this ridiculous commentary is still happening. As one of that generation of women who was at the forefront of the movement for equality for women, it astounds me that we still have so far to go, and that so many young people are so totally ignorant about what it really means. That young women are afraid to say they’re a feminist is incredibly sad, and I see that as being the result of all of the hard work that we put out to bring about the changes in society that you now don’t even notice because it’s taken for granted. In a way it’s good because we were obviously successful in many ways, but unfortunately the troglodytes also seemed to have gained an audience, and have managed to set humanity back at least a couple of decades or so. If young women don’t stop being so complacent, you may see many of the rights that you now take for granted being slowly eroded. Wakie wakie time.

"the troglodytes"?? Careful, your commie is showing sister.

The forefront of equality for women? Congratulations on doing good things. Equality all the way. Feminism? Long since forgotten all about equality. A long way to go? I agree, the pendulum needs to swing back toward equal again. Don't worry, men now know this and we are actively working towards it. Equality is good for all of us.
