The lower our dollar goes the cheaper the world can buy Canada.

So everyone wanting to destroy the Oil industry are in fact your own worst enemies...I suspect you're all to blinded by self righteousness to see it though.

I’m not educated enough to know if the spill risk is sufficient to justify the hand-wringing, but I think your point is a poor one. People can simultaneously want to protect B.C. from oil spills and also want to manage the problems associated with heavy foreign investment. Selling lots of oil won’t lead directly to lower foreign investment. I think you just find activists annoying, and are lashing out. Think up something more insightful and try again. I might side with you.

Personally, I put my money where my mouth is. I drive an electric (No not a tesla. Not rich). And pay a premium to live 7 minutes from my work. Not a hypocrite but I do care about the environment and how strategies of today have huge implications for people of tomorrow. I know these companies have contingency funds for spills (i.e. Kinder Morgan has $1B). But guess who's paying when the spill costs $3B to clean up? And what about the lost industries due to a spill. All for what? 300 to 400 "forecasted" jobs. Time to invest in sustainable energy. The tar sands are so shameful because of how much energy needs to be put in to refine it and make it useable.

That's kind of the point

Enonomists call it Dutch Disease.
When our dollar is too high, our manufacturers suffer and can't compete. The oil industry ruined manufacturing in Canada. The economic trade off might have been a wash. Except now the whole country is subject to boom/bust cycles instead of just Oilberta. The first rule in business is to diversify your portfolio, you know, dont put all your eggs in one basket. I guess someone didn't get the memo. Also there's this little thing called global warming, it's a thing.

I think the definition of self-righteousness is thinking it's better to sell your soul at the cost of degrading the earth we all share for the almighty dollar. Who cares if the world could buy us for cheaper? Those of us who aren't interested in selling have morals and foresight.
