Top 100 Employers of BC... versus ordinary jobs. Ordinary wins.

You get all the over-achievers who work unpaid overtime at the top-100 jobs. That is my experience working at various large companies on the top-100 list. All the best jobs that I have had are for random unknown companies. They paid almost the same, but I had a way better quality of life. Is the top 100 employers of BC thing a government-led propaganda initiative? Is it just something that comes about when people in suits shake hands and make marketing deals?

I worked for a company that thought it could boost morale by getting voted BC's top 50 so it got us all to do the survey. The results were so terrible HR wouldn't even tell us what they were at the staff meeting. THAT was sort of satisfying, strangely.

They want to project that Vancouver is full of top earners to entice more to move here but the opposite is true. BC has the lowest Birth rate in Canada and that is because those top earners come here to set up shop get used and leave.

They either fall trap to the give and take dating scene (you give they take), the "we don't pay overtime" double edge sword or my favourite "you're a part time time employee that happens to work over 35 hours a week but since you're part time, no benefits. Sorry".

Either way this city loses valuable employees monthly and cannot attract anything worthwhile.

I work for one of these top 100 companies. Unfortunately you don't get enough hours when you first start out and it takes time to work your way up. Make sure you really click with your supervisors so that you can move up to higher positions in the company. From what I learned it doesn't matter what job you do because it's whom you know that matters.

It's propagating bullshit and the only way to succeed in these so called top 100 companies is to go through endless hoops climbing up the corporate ladder.
