Are you finding everything okay? Or, Can I help you find anything?

Some customers, I work in a Grocery store. If I'm asking if you want help finding something, I'm giving you good customer service. I'm proud of my work. I don't go out of my way to hit on anybody. Some girls, and guys even think I'm hitting on them or their significant other. NEWS FLASH! You guys need help, and really need to get over yourselves. Not everybody wants you. Have a nice day.

Yes indeed all you egotistical folks with your heads all the way up your ass,
Not everyone wants you or wants to date you.
We in customer service are just doing our job and we're doing it well.
Get the fuck over yourselves!

Customers don’t want to be asked if they need help.
They want to come to you when they actually have a question.

That's not always true. some are too shy to even come up to the workers and usually do need help. shy, or just haven't gotten around to asking the employees yet/in the moment of trying to find their groceries themselves. Also most are such pigs, I worked the salad wall just right. then they go and mess it up. pulling out every bag of salad just to get to the salad package in the very back, "Cause it's the freshest!" ...and don't even bother to clean their mess. "But it's they're job to do anyway...They're there to work, so let them fix it..." man I can go on and on about how annoying customers can be. I only ask the customers once, I don't keep pushing it onto them. that's when they really don't like being asked..i know how that feels. it's annoying. but that's all in good top customer service.

Not only are we not hitting on them but most of us in retail could care less if they leave the store with something. No one asking if you need help wants anything from you. We're doing our job. Also, at most check outs now, companies try to collect information so if a cashier asks for your phone number or email, it's because they have to. It's required by their managers. They get fired when they don't ask or hit a certain target. No one working cash wants your phone number or email. None of us want to contact a customer at home. By all means say no. That's your right. But don't treat the cashier like shit because you hate being asked. Trust me, we hate asking.

In my retail training, I was taught that "can I help you find anything?" has a small part in deterring shoplifters. People who are hell-bent on stealing will do it anyway, but some might think twice if they know they're being watched. Aaaaand....cue the complaints about racial profiling.

It's not racial, just grow an unkempt beard. I sort of like it, because I don't tend to browse, and if someone comes up to me, great, I can ask where what I need is, but it's obvious prejudice against men---men have beards, boys don't have beards.

That customer service people say it is a part of their job to have to ask each customer if they need help.
Plenty of places in the world think their customers are more than capable to shop without constant assistance the minute they enter any store.
They are self-reliant.
Also if it is a timid customer, they probably be shopping online and not in a store.
Treat customers like real people when asking them if they need help not target goals you must meet.
You might find more success.

Not once have I thought that

We know you have to ask for the email or phone number. I’m politely saying no, because I don’t want junk in my email.
