Medeival Times

I think society is moving backwards. In feudal society, and in much of the world, polygamy was the norm. One high status man with multiple wives. We're slowly heading towards that structure again in a sense. There's going to be a small subset of men with multiple partners while the vast majority of men haggle for the leftovers or just plain die alone. In feudal society, there was a king and then a small subset of lords, barons, earls and other nobility who ruled over everyone. Billionaires and their corporations are the new aristocrats, and soon we'll drop any pretense of meritocracy and go back to giving these people titles while the rest of us become peasants. Lord Zuckerberg and Duke Bezos have a certain ring to it, no?

I grew up in the 60s and remember reading about a study they made on overpopulation with rats. It seems the rats end up with "king rats" who have harems, while the regular men rats have to either turn gay or else wither away without any sex at all.

Of course they could have a French style revolution and kill all of the rich pricks, which I'd happily endorse, but then I'm from another era, when the world was actually free.

Not for long

13,000 sealed indictments, and Gitmo is being expanded to process all of them as we speak. They won't be getting civilian trials for their crimes either. It's all going to be military tribunals. Just like Nuremberg. The corporate power structure that we've been living under for about the past 50 years is about to come to an end.

This is already the case...

... and it is quite a bit worse than the medieval period. During the medieval period, there was actually strong support for Church marriage, for most classes. Peasants often lived in extended, intergenerational families, farming the lands of their Lords. And their Lords, even if they were rich and high and mighty, they still got sick like the peasants, it wasn't like today where the rich have access to healthcare technology that the poor cannot even dream of.

Plus if you look at the history of the medieval period, the power of the Lords and Nobles is fairly overblown. I mean, they needed their peasants to farm the land, it's not like they just used archers against them, and, plus, the peasants were often trained in archery. If you have ranged weapons excluded from the toolkit, all you have is fighting with swords/knives/clubs against farmers armed with shovels/rakes/etc. which is actually a fairly even match.

It is not a popular opinion because the Unions control public education, but there was likely more equality in the medieval period than today, because there were more things that rich people couldn't buy their way out of. And even the Lords were forced to attend their Parish churches, along with their tenants, so they weren't insulated from contact with them.

Also, during the medieval period, up until the Crimean War, in the UK at least, corporations were always grants of the sovereign, for the benefit of the public, they were not instruments for making money, for shifting around liability.

Most people who slag the medieval period are ignorant of it. The medieval period was a period of great art and culture, and we are ignorant of much because we do not read the ancients.
