One of my Parents...

... recently overdosed, nonfatally. I know the coroner does the death stats, but what are the stats on people who overdose nonfatally, end up requiring care from their families? I sure do envy my friends who don't have an IV drug addict in the family. I wonder what it's like, having a parent who loves his children. The part that hurts the most is that I know I'm not as fun as IVing cocaine.

My father died of a heroin overdose when I was 17 along with the rest of his siblings that died the same way earlier, as did many of their children (my cousins) ended up dying the same way. I know my father loved me. With addictions like that, it isn't really about them not loving you. It's really just about them hating themselves.

I am in the same boat. My sister almost died from a coke OD and the recovery is long. If there is a support group, I sure would love to join.

Something drove that parent to drugs. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. Look up Dr Gabor Mate's addiction work to gain an understanding of why we seek out coping mechanism.

Parents who love their kids still make human errors. The leading audio book app offers a one book free trial and Dr Mate's book is available on that platform.
