The Patullo is actually an historic important beautiful bridge.

So I agree it needs replacing do we really have to tear it down and scrap it? Not like we have much history and architecture in Vancouver.

"Not like we have much history and architecture in Vancouver." Amen to that brother. Lets not go knocking down what little history we have. The city is already painfully bland.
The Patullo is an ugly death trap

Yes it needs to go
will you pay for the maintenance?

what would be done with it? it is a crumbling mess, building a new bridge isn't going to stop the Patullo from falling apart. It needs perpetual construction to keep it usable, BC already can't afford transit improvements, why throw more money into a deteriorating hole? everyone wants to save run down buildings and landmarks for "history", but nobody wants to allocate the money (that is desperately needed elsewhere) for upkeep.
What a great idea

Why waste time and money planning for the future? The Patullo worked 100 years ago why shouldn't it work now? While were at it, lets restore some of those historic slums around downtown and create historic affordable shanty towns for all.

if you look at Europe, say at river Danube, smaller cities in poor Eastern European countries have dozens of bridges some over 200 years old.
Somehow it works for the.
Why wouldn't it work here?
Europe is thousands of years old

And their bridges still work. Maybe put the real work in and the architecture will last. Do you really think those glass towers will be there in 200 years? Building garbage for future generations to deal with is just careless and wasteful not to mention environmentally very UNfriendly.

Yeah that's why everything collapses in Italy when they get even a minor earthquake....sheesh!

Keep the Patullo; make it for cars only.
Build a bridge beside it for trucks only- route it to the perimeter (17 truck route) Not only will that drain off a lot of congestion into Surrey; (136 st. - King George) It will extend the life of the Patullo Bridge immensely- in fact; it would then be worth sand blasting and repainting the bridge structure; you will easily get another 50 years of life from that bridge.
Don't forget the large reduction in accident rates on the bridge as a result of re-routing Class 8 truck traffic.
