I'd move back to Montreal some day but the amount of bigotry I experienced as an Anglophone is a deterrent.

Like a decade ago I visited Montreal, stayed with family. My family had anglophone friends, like, born in Montreal anglophones, and beyond exclaiming "qu'est que tu va faire!" once in a while, very little French.

Maybe you just don't like French culture? And you could try to learn French, speaking Quebec French is not at all like learning highschool French, a lot of the tenses that they use for testing purposes in highschool are not used in conversational French, they're merely literary.

Very true. There is a "je ne sais quoi" against anglos here. But trust me sweetie, the racism and coldness of Vancouverites is on a whole other level. I just moved back to La Belle Province, and I thank my lucky stars every single day.

Ya?

I lived in MTL for a long time and never felt any discrimination at all. Mind you I spent my first year there working weekends and studying French full time. My experience is not your experience.

“trust me sweetie”? No need to be patronizing. I don’t believe the OP said it was true for everyone, just his/her experience. Which was also mine: how to describe trying to speak French and seeing the person I’m trying to talk to immediately shut down, get hostile and switch to English … or correcting my pronunciation. And always the assumption I was from Ontario, like Canada doesn’t exist beyond Quebec and Ontario. I do miss the cheaper rent though.

Oh really?

The only racism I see in Vancouver is coming from asians towards Whites.
