different times

I once had a gym teacher who didn't take any bullshit from anyone . If you misbehaved in his class, he'd call you a loser, moron, or horse-ass. Some the guys in my PE class were assholes, so props to him for putting them in their place. But that was many years ago and in today's world he'd have lost his job by now.

I had this old English teacher back in high school who was nearing retirement and didn't give two shits anymore about putting up with crap from students. He was like your gym teacher. If you were late for class, he'd just slam the door in your face and let you stand outside the whole class. My sister had him the next year and she told me that one day a kid was being rude and blurting out "what does that word mean?" while the teacher was talking, so he picked up a dictionary and chucked it at the kids face!
That's awesome. I wish I had been there to see that :)

I've had teachers pick my up by the hair and shake me, one teacher gave me one of the worst kickings I've ever had in my entire life all while sitting in a desk; a sadomasochistic ex-Royal Navy pervert; a closeted shop teacher who i recall openly grooming a geeky kid with outlandish attention; plus one teacher who literally beat the daylights out a classroom bully during the 5 minute break lol

It's called reality. Sugarcoating reality doesn't help anyone.

Bully

I don't send my kids to school so that they can be called "loser, moron, or horse-ass" by a 'teacher.' If you don't know how to get kids to behave other than by calling them names, you shouldn't be called a teacher. You're just an ignorant bully. No wonder we have so many bullies when the teachers themselves set the example. Also, why so many young people are suicidal or turn to mass murders. These people should be fired and never allowed near kids again.

Oh the good old days!

NOT. I was not only the victim of a few sadistic and/or perverted teachers, but I also witnessed others getting beaten up and verbally abused all the time. I think that the pendulum has swung much too far in the opposite direction now though, because we now see teachers being regularly abused and they can’t stand up for themselves without risking their jobs. There needs to be a happy medium!!

How it's done

We had a science teacher who was a kind, intelligent person, and who cared deeply about what he was teaching and respected students and human beings in general. He had a great smile and it rarely faded. It's like he was just happy to be alive and doing a job with substance. If anyone in his class ever behaved like a jerk Mr. C. might actually stop smiling and give that student a look that said, "Why are you being a jerk? What have I done to deserve such rough treatment?" It was just a look, a brief absence of his otherwise permanent smile, and it worked. That kid would be looked at by the rest of the class. "Oh wow, you made Mr. C. mad!" Mr. C. never had to say anything harsh or negative, he never had to verbalize his displeasure, it was all accomplished by being a terrific educator and a good-hearted individual. That's how it's done.
