My ex was like that. For well over a decade. She didn't need anybody. Thus why I left.
True that she didn't need me, to be herself. But not true in that she DID need me, to be the person she was when we were married. Because one has to be engaged and vulnerable, and to alter one's self (at least somewhat), for that close, intimate relationship to be possible.

People are very consistent. They change slowly, if at all.
Circumstances can change very quickly. I was married for a long, long time... And now, less than 2 years later, I'm not. I am not my circumstances. Likewise, you are not a situation, but a person.
