Don't be that guy!

Why do people think that when they're downtown they can yell, hoot, howl, play loud music or be generally obnoxious at all hours of the morning, in any area? We live in an apartment building well away from granville street. There are lots of families in all of the towers near me. AND yet we have to put up with couples having screaming matches, drunken groups of males shouting obscenities at each other or hooting as they walk down the street, motorcycles with extra loud exhausts and all kinds of generall jackassery. I know you don't act like this when you get to your neighbourhood (god forbid your parents or neighbours wake up)! Why do you think its ok to do it in ours??

It’s downtown!!! That’s where all the action is at all hours. You’re lucky this isn’t Germany where they have 24 hour dance clubs! If you don’t like it, move to a quiet area. Downtown will never be a quiet area. What planet are you from that you didn’t know this? I’ve never understood the allure of downtown living. It sounds like my worst nightmare.

Do you think this only happens downtown? People outside the bar up the street from me are noisy late at night too, but not any noisier than the trucks and buses hauling people and products in and out of Vancouver and I still manage to sleep. Downtown Vancouver used to be more fun before it filled up with middle class people seeking lodgings near the hip scene, which also seems to have moved away.

I was in a quiet area and now downtown is filtering south, gentrifying, brewery trends etc. It's less a downtown thing and a Vancouver thing now, the noise pollution has definitely increased.

... earplugs. You're the one who moved, as @Whatdidyouexpect? says, downtown. If you wanted quiet downtown, you should have moved to the far side of Denman, near Stanley Park. It's quite nice there. No yahoos either because there's only one bus, really, that goes there.

Vancouver is nothing but a playground for the rich. They could care less about people with families. You can thank Gregor for this mess.

I remember I dated a guy who had a condo right downtown. Staying there overnight a few times, I was annoyed at all the screaming, hollering, sirens, newspaper boxes pushed over and slamming to the ground, all....night.....long. Could never sleep with the windows open. That knowledge swore me off ever living downtown. (The guy thought he was “cool” living right downtown; he turned out to be a just-another-shithead-who-wants-to-get-laid.) However, even when people leave downtown and head home, they’re still carrying stupid and obnoxious with them. In the middle of the night on the weekend, presumably after the clubs closed downtown, my husband heard a giant crash. ON A STRAIGHTAWAY, a car lost control and ran right into a tree head on. Luckily no one was walking on the sidewalk, because they would’ve been mowed down and killed. How else can you explain this, other than people driving home drunk in the middle of the night?
