funding for transit and other infrastructure

Just by imposing a flat fee of $5 per month per cellular phone in Canada would bring in over a hundred million a month. Hardly anybody would notice the difference in their monthly phone bill (except the whining poverty activists) and there'd be more money than anyone could handle for a wide range of projects. Bridges , tunnels, freeways you name it! Only problem is that telecommunications revenue is a Federal piggy bank and the Feds aren't famous for doling the money out fairly once they've collected it

Uhm....weed is going to bring in millions annually.....use the new tax dollars for transit before anyone else gets a go at it. This way no one whines and complains about the tax dollars not being used for something useful. Then the government can keep it all and lie to us about it.

How many people are alive now and pay taxes? The problem is over spending on politicians airplane rides and meals. How much actually goes to Health care, schools, roads, bridges, etc? Very little. I wish they would publish the amount they take from us but they will not.

That's what Gas taxes were supposed to go to...the more we pay in taxes the bigger and more bloated and more wasteful Govt. gets.

And the taxes here are too high as it is, considering the levels of service.
As in, not only expensive, but mediocre at best.
And the rates for mobile services are among the highest in the developed world. Also with mediocre quality, at best.
So, no.
Or, more accurately, HELL, NO.

Transit users should pay for transit, road users should pay for roads, infrastructure, etc. You cannot force others to pay for something don't don't use. That's why you're not a policy-maker. You don't know anything about good public policies.

I'm so sorry.
Didn't realize that there were more intelligent people than me out there.
Let me see , a lot of people are forced to pay for EI and they don't use it. Many people pay school taxes and have no kids.Lots of people pay an extra coupla percent on their property taxes to pay for idiot drug overdosers and don't use the drugs themselves.
Yeah ! what you're saying will make sense to a big chunk of the population.
You'll find this out when you get out of middle school.

You want too much

I'll pay for EI because to me, that is socially responsible. Most people will wind up unemployed sometime in their lives.
Worth it to keep drug users and children away from my house and off the roads.
NOT worth it to pay for other people's transportation, especially if they are able-bodied. IT JUST ISN'T.
I pay to get to where I want or need to go. Everyone else needs to cover their own costs. That's how it should be.

The entitlement never ends.
Listening to people go on about all the things they are owed is how I became this cynical.
