Ignorance WAS bliss

I am well aware that this may sound ignorant... But since finishing my many many years of school, I can't have a conversation on a date without diagnosing my potential suitor with a disorder. I really am trying to keep an open mind and find a nice, normal man.... but it is hard when my scale of normal comes with a very intimate relationship with the DSM-5.

Sounds like you need to diagnose the disorder you have.

this Confession would be more interesting if

you had given some examples of these potential suitors and listed their disorders.

So....

...what have you diagnosed yourself with?

DSM5

Maybe you can't put so much faith in that manual. It's definitely not perfect.

And then they realize

Youre a psychology major which is a disorder of its own. Hey look, I studied phsycology - just like 35 % of all other females that went to school. I am a unique star!

I took exactly one psych lecture at Uni, the prof explained, in our first 3 hour meeting what "classical conditioning" was, and that we'd be graded by multiple choice. I figured I understood the whole thing at that point, and nothing I've done since has traversed that opinion.

I believe it goes... “Doctor heal thyself”

Your post doesn’t sound ignorant, it sounds arrogant.

1. The DSM5 is imminently critiquable/ possibly complete shit. Read up on it. You basically sound like a kid who got a chemistry text and now thinks they're god. There's a bit more to it.

2. You sound like you have some kind of narcissism/superiority issue, thinking everyone but you is messed up.

3. Neuro-divergence is a spectrum, just like anything. Most people have some divergent traits - on a scale of 1-10, the average isn't 1 i.e. textbook neurotypical. Something becomes a disorder, however, when it substantially interferes with your life. Based on what we have to go in here, you are the only disorder these dudes are suffering from.

4. I very much hope you do not go into psychology in any way. Your myopic, judgemental attitude would do considerable harm to any patients you may see.

Experience

Experience and Education are different. I think there is a significant problem in the mental health field in that spending a short period of time with someone is not adequate to assess anything. It seems judgemental and lazy.
