I hate fake eyelashes (there, I said it)

One word answer: money.

There is a ton of money to be made from women feeling insecure about their appearance. They will foolishly spend $800+ on the “right” handbag to show off, $50 for fake nails, $200-$500+ on hair extensions, $100 every 3 weeks for eyelash maintenance, and don’t even get me started on plastic surgery for fake boobs, nose jobs, etc etc etc. Women just follow along and open up their wallet obligingly on these trends. I honestly think women are oppressing themselves if they can’t leave the house without gluing shit to their eyes. I can tell from 15 metres away when the “salon lashes” are applied too, because it looks ridiculously phony.

Some responders said they like it and that they’re doing it for themselves and not for others. I would expect that answer from someone who lies about their appearance because they’re lying to themselves.

Honestly, when I see those 1” black caterpillar fringes at the playground moms, on medical receptionists, on servers, I want to dump a bucket of water on the offender, scrub them with a sponge, throw the lashes in the garbage where they truly belong, and tell the woman she’s free now and that she’s NEVER needed them to begin with.

I don't care what you think

I like fake lashes because they are fun. I don't put them on for you. I don't not put them on for you. I get dressed for me and I don't really care how you feel about it.

I don't like your Dockers.

That’s kind of the point. It’s sad that you’re so hollow inside you need that validation for yourself through an unrealistic concept of beauty.

It's even weirder when you consider the time they invest in working to get the mony to spend on the crap they've decided they need to pretend that they are something other than what they are.

Where did we go wrong?

I would say when we (canada and particularly vancouver), started selling itself out to 'others'.

And when?
Started with the Expo lands, and was a done deal once 1997 rolled around.

Even when they say they wear that fake shit for themselves, we all know it’s cuz they think they don’t look good enough without it. It’s sad.

"Offender"? Wow. How about victim instead? I feel the same way as you about superficiality. I'm very low maintenance: my beauty routine is pretty much taking a shower, and putting on deodorant. I don't wear make-up, let my hair air-dry, and need very little grooming. That said, I occasionally enjoy dressing up, getting different looks from the 20s to the 90s, putting on make-up, fake lashes and nails, etc. It's all in good fun. Women have been doing this since the beginning of time. I'm against the media and society making women feel insecure about themselves. But I don't think wanting to look good, and taking care of one's appearance is necessarily a bad thing. Again, I wish more women would love themselves the way they are, and feel good in their bodies and natural look. But women should have the choice and freedom to do as they want with their bodies. The kind of violence and judgemental attitude you display scares me. You honestly think it's okay to enforce your values on someone just because you believe that's good for them? You think prohibiting women from wearing make-up and fake lashes would set them free? You obviously don't believe she should be free to make her own decisions regarding her body.

you care.

People who don't care what others think don't post their objections to what others think.

Prefacing your dismissal of what others think with "I don't care what you think" is like shouting "I'm not hungry" while wolfing down a box of cookies.
