the old lady that called me a liar on the bus today

Dear Old Lady, you called me an asshole and a liar for not giving you my seat today. I guess you didn't know, priority seating is for those in need. not just you, for being old. I understand you might not have expected to hear that I needed to stay sitting. I get it, I'm young and look fit and I may not look hurt. but i wasn't lying to you when i said it hurts to stand up. you called me a liar. If you knew the pain I've suffered through in the past 14 months. If there is one thing in this world I wish for on a daily basis, it's that I could just stand comfortably for a few minutes. or maybe, juuuust maybe, one day that I wasn't in excruciating pain... but it still hurts to stand. walking is hellish. And you had the gall to call me a liar. You demanded my seat because you are a senior. But refused to listen to me when I told the truth. could you not see the pain in my eyes? I wish I could stand and offer my seat to those who need it, like I always used to do. but today, today I needed to stay sitting. You actually called me an asshole for being disabled today. think about that for a moment. look inside yourself, just for a second. do you have no heart? no soul? is that the problem? go fuck yourself. learn to respect other human beings.

Old Women...

... are the most entitled species on the planet, bar none. "White Privilege" has _nothing_ on "old woman" privilege.

I totally agree.....

people really need to think twice before hurling accusations. A bit off topic, but it's really annoying that retirees travel on transit during rush hour. I understand that they need to live their lives too, but waiting an hour to allow those of us who MUST be in a certain place at a certain time wouldn't kill anyone. I can't count the number of times I have had a non-priority seat and have given it up to an elderly person (just because that's how I was raised) but after working all day on my feet I'm so tempted just to say to heck with it - you chose to travel during peak hours, you can stand.
I'm so sorry you're dealing with chronic pain and a lack of compassion. Stay strong.

I hear ya

35, chronic pain, invisible disability. This has been my life since 32, 2.5 years ago. Check out PainBC. They are a great resource and have a help line if things get worse. You are not alone!

You speak of needing to think twice. What makes you think that seniors don't have places to be during rush hour? (Doctors appointments, meeting family, etc.) Plus, they're on pension. They take transit for a reason. I'm not siding with this mean old lady for a second, what she said to OP is horrible, but to say Seniors should avoid using transit during rush hour because other people (ie: young, healthy workers!) have places to be is the epitome of entitlement.
