Tough Lamer

I find the whole idea of paying someone to run an obstacle course with your friends an absolute embarrassment. It is the definition of Western Privilege. Whenever someone tells me they are doing this, my respect for them fades away. Seriously, give your money to a charity or organization that is helping people in need and go for a hike with your friends. Roll around in some mud and climb some stairs but, come on, get over yourself and do something that is actually worthy of admiration.

Missing the point

You are missing the point. It's just another type of game where someone lays out an interesting series of obstacles on a route where you can get down and dirty, just like when you were a kid. I hate running, but I don't mind running to chase a ball, running around playing paintball or running through an obstacle course. Sometimes fun is just... fun.

Cross training, I pay to do 2 hours of physical labour. You can brag about it, but oddly you could never mention you work as a labourer in Vancouver.

You mean you don’t get it?

It’s funny that you would find something so trivial, an embarrassment. I dare you to try and get a group of friends to commit to a hike and a mud slide. A bunch of flakey Vancouverites? Good luck! The money is what keeps them committed to actually doing it.

You're the lamer

Just because an activity isn't for you, then no one else should partake, right? Also, Tough Mudder does have a charity component - disabled veterans - but I bet that doesn't suit your politics!

I think you’re missing the point of the original post.
It’s absurd to waste money on such extravagant “play”.

Chillax buddy!
That’s a great cause.
But the point made by the OP is still intelligent and valid!

Do you even know the origins of it?

The original course was designed for a routine for the British SAS. An elite special forces group. I would imagine the public course here would be a watered down version of that. So people want a fun physical challenge, so what. I don't care to do it, but I don't think less of those that do. Just read up on where it actually comes from.

The word priviledged

I find anyone using it is a lamer. A person that seeks excuses and lays blame or judgement upon others who simply get on with it, even if that "it" is having some fun. Killjoy was here.

I don’t see what you see

Tough Mudder is to me the same as going to Playland with your friends, paying $300 to ride a fondo with your cycling buddies, or registering for a marathon. They’re consumer events. And this place is rife with them. BTW, I’ve done the Tough Mudder, and it’s hard; none of us could walk after. It IS a physical challenge. Not sure why this physical challenge irks you so much? When you see 50,000 people running the Sun Run, are you embarrassed as well over this show of Western Privilege?

Just another nutjob

Using a moral superiority complex to mask their inadequacies.
We don't need your validation or approval we're having too much fun!
