TransLink

Distance pricing is punishment for those that can't afford to live in Vancouver but still work there. Thanks .

If you can't live close to where you work, work close to where you live. Oh, you can't find a job in your neighbourhood? Well, I guess it's also the economy's fault that you chose the job you did.

The zone system is no different. Distance based fares are at least more fair for people who barely cross zone boundaries. The only concern I have is whether fares will still cover a time period. If we have to pay twice for return trips, that's going to be pretty awful.

TransLink picked this system because transit users voted for it. I voted against it. How did you vote when they did the survey? I'm not saying I like TransLink, but you should blame your fellow commuters who decided this was better.

Yes!!

So true. Eliminating the tolls on the bridges that also targeted those people who have no choice but to live way out of Vancouver, only to replace them with something probably even worse. The people who are lucky enough to live close to where they work simply don’t get it.

Actually...

... if you read the pdf report, you’ll see that the max fare isn’t going up. So no fare increase for people who travel the farthest.

Unlike me: I live and work in zone 1, and now it’s going to cost me more just to get to downtown because it’s more than 5km away.

Lots of transit systems use this type of pricing. Including Sydney, which has the same RE issues like us.
