An actual confession guaranteed to generate strong feelings

There is this guy on Bute and Davie who makes me absolutely sick. He is revolting. And I know he is not homeless. Every day--all day long--he spreads himself and his dirty shit all over the sidewalk either in front of Mac's or Hamburger Mary's. He is filthy from head to toe, and does not much more than just sprawl or sleep. Over the weekend he was passed out with his pants down, his ass up, right in the middle of the day. Thing is, he's not entirely useless or gone in the head, because I have caught him on a few occasions sauntering into the nearby supermarket to coherently pay for some deli food, and once even pacing the sidewalk outside my building, talking on a cell phone very lucidly. He repulses me when I have to walk by him (which is several times a day) and I wish the locals would take action to get him removed, or put into some kind of facility (if he is, in fact, mentally ill, which we all are in some form or another, really). He does not abuse alcohol, from what I've seen, or abuse drugs, though he may smoke weed from time to time. This is just what he chooses to do all day long: sleep on the sidewalk with empty food containers and potato-chip bags around him, then go home to wherever he lives. A more slovenly and disgraceful life cannot be imagined. Have at it, commentators! At least it's not whining about heartbreak and dating!

and they are growing in numbers at an alarming rate make me sick.
No desire to better themselves, no self respect, no idea of what a blight they are on the neighborhood, just a waste of space.
Cops won't do anything.
My solution won't be popular: gather a group of neighborhood folks and threaten him, I mean actually scare the crap out of him and MAKE him leave.

you must be new to the Davie area, this man(boomer) is homeless and has mental health issues, he's one of the most friendly non-aggressive pan-handlers DT, you should have seen the violent panners and drug dealers on Davie 10-15 yrs ago, boomer is most welcome here as anybody.

I love how many presumptions are being made about this guy..

but there is no indication that the OP has ever even talked to the guy.

I would love to live in a community where the sight of a person who spends their days sleeping on the sidewalk with garbage around them would inspire compassion, concern, etc. rather than jealousy and hate.

How would the OP feel if I said, based just off of what I know about you in this confession, that you repulse me and society should take action to remove you?

I know. When he's not showing his dirty ass on Davie Street, he's in Mac's, buying scratch and wins. This neighbourhood enables this horrible exercise in the degradation of a human being; they give him food scraps, quarters, and scratch and wins.

That's what's running things at the moment.
Real, intelligent governments would take him into care and try to get him functional.
Of course we, as normal working people, don't have the right to be offended by scuzzbuckets lying on the street.
We're supposed to pity them , talk to them and give them stuff to salve our tender feelings....... so they can come out on the street the very next day and offend the exact same people, with their smelly shit, their cardboard garbage (and usually their mangy dog).
Most of the commentators would have a different point of view if the bum was lying at their front door or in their front yard every morning.
If society had the compassion to change things to ease the pain of living back in the 1930s with the idea of Social Security, why can't they fix the parts that have proven to be a failure.
This guy along with any panhandlers on the street should be taken off the sidewalks and into confined care. preferably on a farm in an isolated rural district.
Having their freedoms removed would have a salutary effect on the malingerers among the real unfortunates.
