Also how often are there problems (foundation leaks,leaky condo,boiler,roof etc)with the building that require cash infusions of $10- 100k.
Lady i know just got nailed with a $70k assessment - that will likely go up-to seal the building (12 stories),foundation,replace a bunch of windows and re do the pipes in some of the building.

That if you carry that mortgage for 15 years you end up paying for that condo basically twice.
So what $12k in property taxes, another $55k in strata fees plus whatever repair assessments.
So that $500k East Van condo will end up costing you mimimum $1.1 million plus whatever repair bills would should run $100k over that time. Hope it works out.
I rent but actively invest the difference and do 100 times better than any real estate. Bitcoin? Yep. Pot stocks? Yep. Etc? Yep.

If they are then yes owning is cheaper than renting what's strata 300 a month property taxes 1200 a year?
I fail to see how that isn't cheaper.
A 2 bed in a shitty part of town is 2000 a month or more so 5000 to own vs 24000 to rent plus whatever the condo is worth.
