This is the same sh*t, recycled for grownups in the age of social media. A "safe spaces" kicker makes it palatable for gender-nondiscrimination purposes.
Thus, social decay offers a handy new/old method to disqualify women the same way I discount dudes, to wit:

So for men it was gentlemen's clubs, fraternities, drum circles, men-only retreats, etc.
For women it was sororities, drum circles (hmm...), women-only retreats, and now "gentlewomen's clubs". Again, etc.
If you're so desperate for familiarity, safety and validation, I will unsettle you greatly.

There are all male spaces, on Davie Street you men (if you're a guy) have that place F212 which is for guys only you also have Vancouver Men n Leather (they had the TOM Leather Party this past April) also Gay Men Speed Dating (men only) on August 8th so there's plenty of stuff for men only, just Google it or look on Facebook etc

Forced to admit girls. Girl Scouts? Don't have to accept buys. SFU, some guys wanted to have a men's only space,as the women had many. Women protested,called them misogynists etc etc.

Talking of the West End,if you'd looked around a little you'd see that there are more women than men living there...and many areas have 60% women

We truly live in a 1984 style dystopia, what with all of the censorship. But I don't think that even Orwell contemplated that the private sector would engage in such censorship for, what, maintinaing an advertising demographic?
