Vancouver Landlords suck at math

Looking for a place to rent after taking care of my ill parent for the last 3-4 years. A two bedroom suite is $1400-$1600 But a one bedroom is $1100+?!? I’ve never been great at math but this really doesn’t seem fair. Thanks for punishing me for being single. I didn’t expect to be 35 and single but thanks for putting salt in the wound. And no I don’t want a roommate. Vancouver Landlords - your math sucks!

You don't understand how markets work...

It isn't a math error.

Also why would expect a one bedroom to cost half of a two bedroom? They both have one living room, kitchen, bathroom, etc. It's just that a two bedroom has an extra room.

so you think it

needs to be proportional? The 1 bedroom should be $700-800?
Maybe the $1100 is correct and the 2b should be over 2K.

Buy in the suburbs, and your monthly will be about the same.

Yeah!

my rent increases are more than my wage increases. that math doesn't add up either

You actually think you should rent a 1 bedroom for 50% off a 2 bedroom??

I agree suites are wayyy over priced. Everyone know this. But you're right. I shouldn't have to have a roommate, girlfriend or wife so I can live in a rented place and not on the street. It's ridiculous. It's got out of hand. I pay a couple bucks under $800 for rent but that goes up every year since my 73yr old child of a land lord wants me gone. I'm stuck in this place because if I move....I can't afford it. All my car savings and TFSA (which is my RRSP account) will be eaten up by rent. The NDP has to stop this and make living in and around Vancouver livable or I will have to move back to the country where I moved out of 15yrs ago this month. I don't go out...I don't eat at restaurants...I don't see movies...I go to work and come home. I pay no utilities in my suite but rent and bills take up a bit more than one of my pay checks which leaves me with nothing for recreational use. Food costs too much and I eat a lot more than an average person..my build is big....portions are tiny in this country so I gotta spend more. I haven't bought new clothes in years. Yet, I'm still out of money....Renting a place for the price they want right now can't be done. 1 bedrooms suites do NOT cost that much. Greed...it's all greed.

Maybe all rental units should be rented out the same way commercial space is: per square foot.

Wait...

...you found something for $1,100?!?

It's not about math. It's about the market.

I agree

It is not proportional you are correct and those that laugh and say you have no idea about the market do not either.

I’ve been looking for a bedroom to rent for a contract while I’m in Vancouver meaning if it’s correct a bedroom alone should be 300-500 but it’s not!

One bedroom to rent as a room alone starts at $700 if you are lucky most are $800+.

This is just pure human greed.
