Alcoholic

I want so much more from this life. Alcohol addiction has ruined everything. I don't know where to begin picking up the pieces and I don't know if I can carry on this way. I'm begging the universe for a sign or some kind of miracle to help me find a better way to live.

SMART Recovery

Aug 10, 2018 at 12:32pm

SMART Recovery helps people recover from all types of addictive or unwanted behaviours.

SMART is not a 12-step group, like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). There's no "higher power" or religious / spiritual aspect. It's completely secular and evidence based.

There are face-to-face meetings around town, and daily online meetings. In addition, our online message board and 24/7 chat room are excellent forums to learn about SMART Recovery and obtain addiction recovery support.

Don't give up

Alcoholism is so difficult to conquer and you shouldn't beat yourself up over falling in its trap. Please try as many different paths to getting sober before giving up on recovery. Somewhere out there is a ladder to get you out of the hole you have fallen into.

You’ve made the first step

In admitting your addiction.
Get to an AA meeting, look into Counselling through Coastal Health, there are actually a lot of resources out there.
A few months sober myself and I can tell you it’s wonderful not being sick every day and actually feeling content on some days.
Good luck!

Actually you're part way toward your goal.

Accepting the alcohol part is the key to your changing.

If you can do this, you still have somewhat of a future ahead.

Don't give up hope.

Hard to read your confession and not feel your pain. Please take that next step and get the help you need. We're all on your side - there's your sign.

Letting yourself be in charge of recovery

Is clearly not working. I've been there. I tried so hard to stay sober, I went to multiple meetings a day, and nothing worked because I knew deep down inside that I was in charge of my recovery and I could have another sip anytime I wanted. If you truly want to be sober you need to admit yourself to rehab. You are an addict, and you cannot be trusted in control. Put your recovery into the hands of someone who can control you. You will be so happy you did. It's never too late.
