I am convinced...

... that nutrition is the single most important thing in society, if we're to have equality. Not censorship, not a merely negative agenda of "controlling the evil people" but a positive agenda of providing the food people need.
But we don't do this, do we? We have huge stratification in what foods are available to which people. If you look at the old murals in VGH, in the "old days," there was one kitchen that fed the patients, nurses and doctors. Now we have contracted food for the patients, and a cafeteria for the doctors/nurses, or they bring their own.
For the eco-freaks, how many people would voluntarily convert to vegetarianism if the Government provided free, healthy vegetarian meals sufficient to live on? If the Government had a free kitchen where I could go, but it was vegetarian, I'd go there, I'd stop cooking meat!

Whoever invented that green jello with bits of yesterday's soggy cooked vegetables suspended in it should have their face slapped!
Hospital food

is the most unhealthy. Lots of milk and other dairy, white bread, sugary juice, tinned vegetables, meat etc.

Nutrition is key, yes, but I don't believe anyone should be relying on agencies to save them or what would the need for those agencies be? At the end of the day each individual is going to live their life as they see fit. If they want to eat vegetarian/vegan they will. Something that always confuses me is people thinking it's more expensive?

Everyone has to eat, so why not centralize food production like we centralize road production?
Why have public hospitals and not also have public restaurants where people can eat a healthy diet without thinking about it?
It seems like lack of public meals is a big gaping hole in modern "socialist" government. Aristotle talks about this:
"As to common meals, there is a general agreement that a well-ordered city should have them." (1330a4, Politics)
Asking why people should rely on (or contribute to) agencies to feed them is like asking why people should rely on (or contribute to) polices forces, instead of doing their own crime-fighting. In a polis, a city, these functions should both be standardized and supported by public taxation. People can buy their own private food if they like, of course, too.
I for one
