My Condo is my retirement.

So I get really annoyed at politicians with huge salaries and gold plated pensions wanting to destroy the only retirement plan I have.

So do you get annoyed at poor people being priced out of their community in order to fund your retirement?
Pro-tip: there are lots of ways to invest for your retirement that aren't based on the hope housing will become too expensive for your fellow citizens. Invest in an ETF instead; it's also much more diversified and a lower risk investment.
How does that work...

.. you retire, sell your condo, buy a van and live down by the river?

Lots of options for "poor" people who don't mind moving a little further out into up and coming areas of the Lower Mainland...Skytrain can get you anywhere in 30 Minutes.
I get really annoyed

Silly me, I thought cities were for people to live in, work, socialize, and prosper, not to fund some rich guy's retirement. How much economic (and human) potential is being wasted by turning the entire west side of this city into a safety deposit to fund rich people's retirement? (also, why are you putting scare quotes around "poor"?)

lol...Dude I have a Condo but trust me I'm poor when it comes to politicians and Govt workers...I've decided to pay my own mortgage instead of someone else's. Your bad decisions in life have nothing to do we me.

No there aren't, if you make less than 70 grand a year you aren't going to be able to buy anywhere in the lower mainland. Unless you want to commute from Trail or Williams Lake, there are no affordable areas left. Even if that were not the case, real estate is a risky place to invest. My own parents lost their shirt in the 80's when the market nose-dived back then. A lot of people were put out to pasture during the "great recession" 10 years ago. Markets correct themselves, the only thing the government is doing is trying to soften the blow when it does inevitably happen.

If your retirement plan is inadequate, whose fault is that?
